A Reason to Fight

There’s a kind of
Helplessness I feel
When I see people
Reach out for the sun.

I am not the Sun,
My star is not nearly
So bright as that but
I wish for a moment that I was.

The Sun encompass’ warmth
Giving people reasons to live
But when they’re blinded by
Darkness I feel like they’re being swallowed up.

They’re blindly reaching for
The reason to live but
It’s always just out of reach.

If only for a few moments
I wish that I could give them that
A few more moments to fight
To glimpse that sun again.

And though I’ll be outshone
And they might not see my star anymore
I am still so glad they saw
The reason to fight that depressing darkness.
